Al grew up in central New Jersey where he was most fortunate to study with Jerry Nowak. Al received BM in education and MM in clarinet performance from SUNY Fredonia School of Music. Al retired from 33 years of public school teaching in central NY and the Hudson Valley (NY) and has taught clarinet and saxophone at Nyack College (NY), Eastern Florida State College and Indian River State College.
Al has always played in “wedding bands”. He played with the Utica (NY) Symphony, Newburgh (NY) Symphony, solo chair clarinet with Orange County Music Educators’ Wind Ensemble (now the Greater NY Wind Symphony), Central Florida Winds, Melbourne Municipal Band. During his central NY years he played lead tenor with “The Mohicans” a popular big band in Utica, and, after moving to Florida he has done a lot of subbing for the “Swingtime” in Melbourne. Al has also played in many pit orchestras for musicals in NY State and at the Heneger Center in Melbourne.
